Did you know that your home may have smoke damage, even if it wasn’t directly involved in a fire?
We’ve all seen the images of massive smoke plumes stretching across our city. Many of us have even witnessed ash falling into our yards and struggled to breathe with all the smoke clogging the air. Now that the plumes have disappeared, it is easy to forget that our homes were once full of smoke.
Even though you can’t see it, smoke particles may still be lingering in your home. We all know the potential health issues related with smoke inhalation, but did you know that smoke particles can also cause serious and permanent damage to many household items?
The fine quality of smoke particles enables them to coat every surface within a home. These particles form a thin layer over hard surfaces such as counter-tops, floors, and walls. The smoke particles also sink deep into cushions, bed linens, and draperies. If left untreated, these smoke-damaged items can become permanently discolored, tarnished, or corroded.
What to do when you suspect your home has smoke damage:
- Call us. In many cases, we can arrange to meet with you for a free, no-obligation smoke assessment that very day. One of our trained technicians will test multiple surfaces throughout your home to determine whether or not your house has smoke damage.
- If we do find smoke residue inside your home, the next step is to contact your insurance company and file a claim. At this point, the insurance company will usually send out an adjuster to examine your home and verify our findings.
- Once the adjuster approves your smoke claim, our trained professionals will perform what is known as a “contents-clean.” This means we will clean all the surfaces within your home that have been exposed to smoke. Depending on the severity of smoke within your home, we may also setup specialized equipment to rid your home of smoke odors.
That’s it! At Rainbow International of Colorado Springs, we work directly with your insurance company to bring your home back to its original condition. If you think your home may have smoke damage, please don’t hesitate to give us a call!
